The Sr. Transportation Planner will collaborate with our team of urban planners, urban designers, landscape architects, traffic engineers and civil engineers and be responsible for leading consulting services for the creation and improvement of integrated, multimodal transportation systems that help to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout communities and public spaces, while being responsive to the surrounding land use, market and economic forces, and community preferences.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enterprising and innovative transportation planner with an integrated design mindset who has strong analytical, communication skills, and a passion for multimodal transportation solutions,[KW4] [FK5] i.e. Complete Streets, Low Stress Bikeways, etc, and is interested in working in a variety of different project contexts. This position will lead and take an active role in conducting planning and design processes required by federal, state or local government planning processes, data collection, visualization and interpretation, as well as project planning and design. The ideal candidate will maintain positive and constructive working relationships with internal and external customers. Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for multimodal transportation planning, in a variety of contexts including statewide, metropolitan region, city, neighborhood and/or corridor study areas.
  • Lead teams in projects and public engagement related to transportation planning and policy issues.
    Lead statewide, regional, and local transportation planning projects with a focus on the Southeastern United States, as well as national-level research projects and selected planning studies in other regions of the U.S.
  • Present visionary and influential views on transportation planning within our practices both internally and to our clients.
  • Lead the development of innovative, accurate, timely, and high-quality products and services, typically working on multiple projects with all levels of staff and a variety of disciplines.
  • Identify industry trends and work closely with senior leadership to position Barge for long-term growth in the field of transportation planning.
  • Focus on innovation in corridor planning; statewide and regional transportation planning; multimodal; resiliency and sustainability planning; diversity, equity, and inclusion; utilize travel demand modeling; and knowledge of environmental planning related to transportation.
  • Advance the practice through technical ingenuity, and innovation.
  • Partner with business development and technical leadership to build relationships with federal, state, regional, and local planning clients, with an ability to work successfully across markets.
  • Manage the technical delivery of transportation planning projects for state departments of transportation, MPO/regional agencies, local governments and transit and transportation authorities in the southeastern United States
  • Manage and participate in the preparation of planning reports, presentations and studies for major and minor projects.
    Manage and participate in the design of transportation related projects.
    Provide mentorship and guidance to technical specialists and discipline leaders within the practice and drive innovative ideas for research and development.


Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's (preferably a Masters degree) in Transportation Planning, Urban Planning or Design, Civil Engineering, landscape architecture or a related field (or relevant experience) AICP certification is preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years [KW1] [FK2] [KW3] of multimodal transportation planning working with MPO's, DOT's and/or municipalities for corridor studies, systems plan, transit projects, and/or other related various regional/municipal/land use planning and design projects.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and local transportation p[KW4] [FK5] olicies and how they relate to design and project development processes and related funding programs at the state and local levels.
  • Proficiency in transportation planning software, GIS tools and data analysis techniques required. Experience in graphic production in both 2D and 3D using Sketchup and the Adobe Creative suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop) is desirable.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills both written, graphic and oral.
    Ability to gather, organize and analyze data critically and develop supporting information and reports.
