What We're Looking For:
Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking to fill the position of Senior Civil Engineer - Stormwater in our Knoxville, TN office location. This position will be heavily focused on hydrology and hydraulic (H&H) modeling and stormwater project designoverseeing the planning, design, and implementation of complex stormwater management systems. In addition to the responsibilities of a regular stormwater civil engineer, a senior professional is expected to provide guidance, and mentorship, and strategic direction to junior engineers and teams. You will collaborate with a team of engineers and professionals to ensure compliance with regulations and standards, while also considering environmental impact and sustainability. This role may be performed fully remote or in a hybrid schedule working from home 2 days per week!

Responsibilities for this position include:
  • Perform and/or lead H&H modeling tasks on various stormwater projects.
  • Lead the planning, design, and implementation of large-scale and complex stormwater management projects,specialized project design ensuring adherence to engineering standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers., supporting their professional development and fostering a culture of continuous learning within the team.
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to understand project requirements and ensure alignment with expectations and regulatory guidelines.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and analyses of existing stormwater infrastructure, identifying opportunities for improvement and recommending innovative solutions.
  • Oversee the development of engineering plans, specifications, and cost estimates for various stormwater projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources effectively, ensuring that projects are delivered within specified constraints and meet quality standards.
  • Review and approve technical documentation, including reports, proposals, and design drawings, to ensure accuracy and completeness.Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in stormwater management, and integrate them into project designs and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with business development teams to identify and pursue new opportunities, participate in proposal development, and contribute to the growth and expansion of the organization's portfolio.
  • Engage in regular communication with clients, providing updates on project progress, addressing concerns, and fostering strong, long-term relationships.
  • Supports PM providing technical leadership on civil-site projects including preparation of grading, drainage, site layout, utility, and erosion control plans on stormwater projects.
  • Engages permitting agencies, clients, and contractors as you participate in projects from the conceptual design stage all the way through construction.
  • Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents
    Performs other duties as required.


Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • 8+ years of demonstrated experience engineering experience and knowledgeable in the field of hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater managementin the design and management of complex stormwater infrastructure projects.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and guide multidisciplinary teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant software and tools, such as AutoCAD, GIS, and hydraulic modeling software (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, SWMM-based programs), along with proficiency in utilizing them for complex engineering analyses. Two-dimensional modeling and AutoCAD/Civil3D experience is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to contribute to the strategic growth and development of the organization.
    Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations, stormwater management guidelines, and industry best practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of work quality.
