What We're Looking For:

This Senior Bridge Engineer position will report to the regional Bridge Practice Leader and will work on complex bridge projects and develop innovative practical solutions to various structural design challenges. This role is responsible for leading, managing, and performing challenging bridge design and analysis tasks as well as other structural engineering tasks for bridge systems and components. The success metrics for this role are quality delivery, adherence to project budgets, leading bridge engineering assignments, and mentoring junior employees.
  • Design and manage bridge projects for public clients at the local, county, and state level
  • Attend client meetings or manage technical expertise to provide subject matter support
  • Plan, develop, and coordinate bridge engineering design projects with technical responsibility for interpreting, organizing, executing and coordinating assignments
  • Maintain relationships with individuals within or outside the organization with responsibility for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to the bridge design projects
  • Knowledgeable in using industry accepted engineering and bridge design software
  • Perform calculations and act as technical advisor to less experienced engineers
  • Perform bridge inspections for routine and complex bridge structures, prepare reports, and coordinate with other team members
  • Develop scopes of work, project hours and schedules
  • Check for accuracy of completed work
  • Travel to collect field data, conduct field reviews, monitor construction progress, conduct client meetings, and participate in public hearing or interview presentations

Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited program; Master's degree preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in bridge design or structural engineering projects; prefer 10 or more years of experience
  • Registered PE in Alabama or ability to obtain in six months
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles with a proven track record as a problem solver
  • Experience with AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, and other North American design codes
  • Experience with the design of multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, and knowledge of staged construction analysis
  • Solid background and understanding of structural engineering software packages like: MDX, LEAP Concrete, Open Bridge Designer, MicroStation, etc.
  • Preferred experience with engineering design software programs such as LUSAS, SOFiSTiK, MIDAS, or CSI Bridge
  • Bridge inspection experience is required and NHI certification as a team leader is preferred
  • Preferred experience would include project work on complex structures as well as load rating experience
  • Preferred experience with ALDOT bridge plan layout preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge in bridge engineering; preferred experience would include project work on complex structures as well as load rating experience
  • Preferred experience with Alternative Delivery Projects
  • MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, as well as bridge software experience is required
  • Bridge inspection experience/certification is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication and collaborative skills with ability to lead a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Keeps informed regarding new methods and developments affecting the organization and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis
  • Provide discipline specific and state specific technical leadership within the geographic region
  • Timeliness and quality of technical direct reports' and team's work on projects and budget adherence
  • Utilization rates align with goal
