What We're Looking For:
Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking to fill the position of Solid Waste Engineering Manager in the Site Solutions business unit in one of the following locations: Knoxville, TN, Chattanooga, TN, or Nashville, TN.

Project work is primarily associated with waste management facilities and remediation of sites impacted with hazardous materials. These projects will involve regulatory compliance related efforts such as permit filings, compliance task management, data collection and management, and client interface on permits and compliance. This position will lead a technical team and manage projects from concept through alternative development, costing, and detailed design.

The position entails engineering design, team support and project management on a variety of environmental and engineering projects. Projects include, but not limited to, the design and siting of waste resource facilities, such as landfills, transfer stations, convenience centers, recycling facilities, and composting operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop the initial waste management design approach and maintain overall responsibility for the engineering work
  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate engineering work involving conventional engineering practices but may include a variety of complex features
  • Evaluate respective data, prepare proposals and reports, and take part in other environmental consulting projects
  • Provide engineering analyses and calculations
  • Organize designs and details to produce a completed set of drawings
  • Investigate and procure data required to develop a design
  • Research and write various reports/opinions
  • Utilize various engineering related computer software
  • Compile project specifications
  • Complete construction cost estimates
  • Gain project approvals through local and state agencies, including meetings with agencies and responding to comments
  • Provide engineering support activities required during construction
  • Coordinate with client and project team as needed


Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field, Master's Degree preferred
  • 10 years plus experience with five or more years specific to landfill and remedial designs
  • PE required
  • PMP preferred
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Knowledge and experience in Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Alabama or Texas Solid Waste Regulations
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication and technical/computer skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment across multiple locations within the organization
