What We're Looking For:
The Bridge Practice Leader reports to Barge's Director of Bridge Engineering and provides leadership to one of Barge's Transportation regions. This role is available in Florida and is responsible for hiring, developing, and managing technical staff in the region, and partners with Project Managers to assign technical resources to projects. This role is also responsible to ensure that skills and capabilities match project needs and costs are kept within project budgets. The success metrics for this role are quality delivery, adherence to project budgets, utilization, and employee experience.

  • Provide oversight and leadership of the Bridge Design discipline for the region
  • Forecast and develop the discipline's staff mix to align with business sector growth projections
  • Develop and promote policies and standard procedures to improve project delivery
  • Work to reduce the discipline's project delivery costs to help drive competitive status
  • Attend client meetings or manage technical expertise to provide subject matter support
  • Act as a technical advisor for various projects and programs
  • Provide input to proposals and Project Management Plans
  • Act as a technical lead on portions of larger complex projects
  • Continue to strengthen relationships with clients, sectors, direct reports, and others
  • Play an active role in advising and executing strategic and business planning activities
  • Promote a great work environment for the region
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Manages a small group of employees
  • This role will have talent management responsibilities for a group of individuals including, but not limited to selection, development, and coaching for improvement
  • Provide discipline area leadership in the geographic region assigned

Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from accredited program; Master's degree or PhD preferred
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in bridge design or structural engineering projects; prefer 15 or more years of experience
  • Registered PE in respective states, or ability to obtain in six months; SE preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles with a proven track record as a problem solver
  • Experience with AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, and other North American design codes
  • Experience with the design of multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, and knowledge of staged construction analysis
  • Solid background and understanding of structural engineering software packages like: MDX, LEAP Concrete, Open Bridge Designer, MicroStation, etc.
  • Preferred experience with engineering design software programs such as LUSAS, SOFiSTiK, MIDAS, or CSI Bridge
  • Bridge inspection experience is required and NHI certification as a team leader is preferred
  • Preferred experience would include project work on complex structures as well as load rating experience
  • Preferred experience with respective state Departments' of Transportation bridge plan layout preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge in bridge engineering and state specific bridge practice preferences in respective region
  • Ability to facilitate a collaborative work environment and advancing initiatives that support a positive employee experience
  • Preferred experience with Alternative Delivery Projects
  • MicroStation and/or AutoCAD, as well as bridge software experience is required
  • Bridge inspection experience/certification is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication and collaborative skills with ability to lead a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Keeps informed regarding new methods and developments affecting the organization and recommends new practices or changes in emphasis
  • Guided by overall Discipline Strategy
  • Ability to effectively guide, lead, and motivate employees
  • Effectively partner with sectors and teams to meet objectives
  • Ability to make sound business decisions guided by Discipline Strategy
