What We're Looking For:
Barge Design Solutions, Inc. is currently seeking to fill the position of Natural Resources Senior Scientist. Ideally, the position will be filled in our Knoxville, Tennessee office; However, other Barge offices would be considered for the best fit candidate.

The position will involve working with a multi-discipline team supporting the environment, ecology, and natural resources area of practice on projects. These projects span a variety of markets and client types and will include collaboration with other Barge technical disciplines to best serve our clients.

  • Provide technical expertise and guidance, perform wetland delineations, stream assessments, hydrologic determinations, and protected species surveys
  • Prepare Clean Water Act (CWA) Section 401/404 permit applications, natural resources and ecology technical reports
  • Interact with various regulatory agencies and clients
  • Help to support stream and wetland mitigation services
  • Proficient in using a GPS unit for environmental applications
  • Proficient in using GIS to create figures and organize field data
  • Assist with preparation of project proposals and work plans
  • Must be reliable, cooperative, a team-player, and service-oriented
  • Multiple day and overnight assignments away from the office should be expected

Future potential growth opportunities include building, growing, and managing a team of scientists; performing business development tasks; and dedicating time to develop and maintain client relationships aligned with strategic growth plans for Barge's natural resources and environmental services.

Education & Experience Qualifications:
  • 4-year degree in environmental related field such as biology, ecology, or environmental science; Master's Degree preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in performing environmental studies, preparing associated documentation, completing CWA 401/404 permitting tasks
  • Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) and/or Qualified Hydrologic Professional (QHP) (or ability to obtain in the near future)
  • Operates as a lead Scientist on wide range of project types and responsible for reviewing complete project documents
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, and Collector
  • Environmental related training (OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER, OSHA 10-hour, wetland delineation, etc.) a plus
  • A federal collection permit for relevant threatened and endangered species in Tennessee, and the surrounding states, is desirable, but not required.
